*A sonnet is a fourteen line poem written in iambic pentameter and following a particular rhyme scheme typically dictated by either Italian or English form rules. This sonnet qualifies as an English sonnet.

I amputated my arm yesterday
Blood relentlessly spilled out of the wound
I watched it pour and I began to pray
Maybe God would finally be attuned

It ached and throbbed and chilled me to the bone
Wailing and screaming in tortuous pain
But nothing hurts like being left alone
Without a sister to come ease the strain

She used to suffocate me in her clutch
Trapping me underground, salting the earth
My dreams at night torment me with her touch
But if she asked I’d give her all I’m worth

I keep her with me hidden in my heart
She tears me to shreds and I fall apart
