Scenic views of life and death inspire me to say yes

Sticking my teeth together
With gum.
I can't smell the lavender on
My tongue,
Only the mist of Japanese
Cherry blossoms on my skin.

Oh Dionysus! I've come to swim in
Your pools of wine
I'm off to find this passion
of mine.

I’ll cry tears of gold joy
When sparks fall as my feet
Touch this ground.

I’ll cry tears of gold joy
When heavy gray clouds come
To shake all the things around.

Helen Godoy is finishing her junior year at Pembroke Pines Charter High School. She has been a part of NEHS for two years and was a round 2 finalist of the Poetry Out Loud competition. She believes that poetry is not only an outlet of self expression but a way to speak truth that can’t be communicated through prose.
