Us

An ekphrastic poem is inspired by a work of art. Jadelyn Corzo’s “Us” is inspired by Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss.

I love the way
we fit together
like puzzle pieces, or
the heart and vessels
of blood, never
without the other, until
death

I love being inside
your brain, to taste
your thoughts and all
the dirty things, you know
I am the only one
who can bear
it

I love to feel
the contours of
your swan neck, just
because you
belong to me,
and no one
else

Jadelynn Corzo is a graduating senior at Pembroke Pines Charter High School. She has been involved with the Creative Writing Honors class and involved in the National English Honor Society. This piece is inspired by The Kiss by Edvard Munch.
