It Will Swallow Us Whole

If you can hear me:
I woke up today to fire on my face
and the sun larger than usual.
The sky is as red as the hatred of those
who walk among us.
Rats are scurrying about outside
to quench their thirst and wash away
their self-inflicted wounds. But still,
they will deny any of this is their fault.
It will swallow us whole.

If you can hear me:
Everything has cleared out. There is nothing
essential left to claim.
The hogs have snatched them all
and tossed the rest aside as it burned outside. Oh, how it burns!
Windows are shut, and so are their eyes.
What is there to gain from ignorance while facing the truth?
It will swallow us whole.

If you can hear me:
There is no day and there is no night.
Only red and gray.
The red of buildings burning and grey smog in the sky.
The airports are full, and soon hell will be, too.
Full of the chickens who dare try to escape their own punishment.
May they all burn in it.
It will swallow us whole.

If you can hear me:
Empty towns,
empty streets,
and empty husks
is all there will be.
Pride and ignorance will burn.
It will swallow us whole.

If you can hear me:
The heat is far
too much to bear.
There is no other choice
but to accept
The fact
that we
are
all
wrong.

If y
ou c
an hear
me:
The fire
will swal
low me
whole.
It will sw
allow you
whole.
It will swall
ow them
whole.
it
will
swallow
us
all
whole.
